Sue Wege, Southeast Regional Coordinator for MusicLink Foundation called yesterday to remind me of how MusicLink Foundation benefits needy students. As you may remember, MusicLink began as a program sponsored by MTNA, but has become its own separate organization in recent years. If you are teaching students on full or partial scholarship, please consider this program. Details follow.
MUSICLINK—WHAT IS IT & WHY SHOULD I GET INVOLVED?
MusicLink (ML) is a program with the mission of linking teachers, who are willing to teach lessons for full or partial scholarship, with promising students, in need. Many talented students are in this situation and will never have a chance to develop their musical potential.
Willing, generous, and dedicated teachers are at the heart of ML. Without these teachers, ML could not exist. Many teachers are stepping forward to accept this challenge and because of them over 2,000 students nationwide are realizing their dream.
If you are reading this and saying, “Yes, I would like to get involved”, contact your state or regional coordinator for assistance in getting started. If you are already teaching a student on partial or full scholarship, visit the ML Foundation website, click on volunteer, fill in the form and that’s all there is to it. One form is all it takes to register your student and begin enjoying the benefits of being a ML teacher. If you do not have internet access, contact your coordinator to get a registration form.
What are the benefits of registering with ML?
The MusicLink Foundation supports ML teachers and students by:
1. helping to arrange links between teachers and students.
2. offering grass root grants for ML teachers to begin a ML program.
3. providing music camp scholarships for ML students.
4. issuing an I.D. card to qualify ML teachers for offers from Business Partners such as:
o Free or discounted music and materials from such fine companies as Hal Leonard, Carl Fischer, Kjos, Alfred, FJH, Willis, and many more.
o Electronic keyboards or acoustic pianos placed in the homes of ML students.
o Loans of instruments
o Free rental space for meetings or recitals
*Please note that ML does not pay teachers to teach.
Please consider making a place in your schedule for a needy student. You can make a big difference in the life of a child by sharing your gift of music.
