Julia Smith Wilhelm is an accomplished flutist, pianist and teacher.
She is a native of Hickory, NC, and a magna cum laude graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne College with a BA in Applied Music. Her graduate studies were at Appalachian State University, Boone, NC and Jordan College of Fine Arts, Butler University, Indianapolis, IN where she earned a Master of Music in Flute Performance, with a Music History emphasis.
She has studied with Dr. Lynn White, Lenoir-Rhyne College and Appalachian State University; Rebecca Price Arrensen, co-principal flutist and piccoloist, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra; and Valeria Simosko, former principal flutist, Charlotte Symphony Orchestra.
Julia has an extensive background as a performing artist, including weddings, handbell festivals, church events and community recitals.
Previously, she served as Organist/Choirmaster of The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Our Saviour, Dallas, NC, and as Director of the Chancel Choir at Mt. Pisgah Lutheran Church, Hickory, NC.
Her awards and activities include: member of Mu Sigma Epsilon; Faculty distinction Award, Butler University, 1995; member, National Flute Association; membe;r, National Guild of Piano Teachers; and member, Board of Directors, Queen City Ringers, Charlotte, NC.
She is a former Adjunct Professor of Flute at Gardner-Webb University, Boiling Springs, NC where she taught applied flute students and directed the flute ensemble. Julia also teaches flute and piano privately.
