Purpose: To encourage young composers and to give them a venue to perform their music.
Student Eligibility Students must study with a teacher who is affiliated with the organizations listed above, or who has paid a non-member entry fee.
Teacher Eligibility Teachers must hold current membership with the organizations listed above. Non-members must pay a teacher entry fee of $40.00. This fee will allow a teacher to enter one or more students. The teacher, the student or the place of instruction must be located in North Carolina. A teacher may enter an unlimited number of students.
Composition Manuscript Each student may enter only one composition. Each composition must be at least 16 measures in length, and must be in the composer’s handwriting or in the form of a computer printout, produced by the composer. A fully realized score is required. Measures should be numbered at the beginning of each system. Each page should be labeled with the student’s name and category (Elementary, Junior, or Senior) The teacher’s name should not appear on the manuscript. Students are encouraged to design a colorful cover page (with title and student’s name) for their composition. Composition Covers should not exceed 8 x 11 size.

Composition Submission Paperclip (no staples, please!) the check, student application, manuscript and cover page, and deliver by November 1, 2009, to:

No changes may be made after submitting the composition. Each student should keep a copy of his or her manuscript. Charlotte Music Teachers Association is not responsible for materials lost in the mail.
Adjudication The composition judge will critique the student’s manuscript, by writing comments to the student. The judge will give Special Commendation to any student’s composition, which he/she feels is deserving of special recognition.
Recital and Reception (Open to the public) DATE: TBA LOCATION: TBA TIME: TBA RECITAL: Performance time should not exceed 10 minutes. Should the composition be for an instrument other than that of the composer, they must provide a performer.
